<p>五年級小學生恭平由於雙親太忙，被父母安排到親戚在玻璃浦經營的「綠岩莊」過暑假。同時帝都大學物理系副教授湯川學也因海底礦物開發計畫，來到這個擁有美麗海景卻沒落的小鎮。可是，距離綠岩莊的四百公尺外堤下，發現了一具男屍，死者正是和湯川學同一天住進綠岩莊的旅客塚原正次，而且是位退休刑警… <br><br>由一開始以為是意外事故，可是草薙俊平受上司委託直接搜查此案，草薙得知湯川學正住在該旅館住宿向他求助，一連串的調查後，意外事故列為謀殺事件，而案件正正關連著塚原正次為何來到玻璃浦這一問題上，而真相卻是16 年前塚原正次調查的一宗命案。<br><br>素來不喜歡以調查案件為起始的湯川學，今次卻以科學及推理主動揭開案件真相，湯川學背後的原因是甚麼呢？另外一向距小孩於千里之外的他，今次卻與恭平建立了亦師亦友的關係，為何湯川學有這個改變呢? </p>
